Often with the 2-cylinder Maxwell transmission the high speed clutch pressure plate will be worn to the point of very little clutch adjustment is left to prevent slipping in high gear. The second common problem is the three spring tabs are broken and missing. These spring tabs are important, as they help pull the pressure plate away from the clutch pack when the car is removed from high gear and put into neutral.

I provide a rebuilding service to replace the worn bronze pressure plate with a new bronze plate in 3/8″ thickness material. I begin by disassembly of the pressure plate assembly and degrease/clean all components. I manufacture and install new spring tabs and rivet the entire assembly back together with the new bronze plate, ready for you to reinstall in your car.
